Employment Therapist Definition: A nickname given to LT Ladino Bryson based on the wisdom, isms and anecdotes she has shared with candidates looking for career growth and clients to help bring light, knowledge and humor in what can be painful and confusing times in the job search process that can blur one’s reality.
So, how did I get that moniker?
It started with my role as an entertainment executive working with artists such as Will Smith, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin and others helping them to present themselves to their fans and then as an executive recruiter, where I loved solving my clients’ search problems by providing great talent that would help extend their company culture. There is nothing more fulfilling than making a perfect match between someone searching for a new job and employer. In both experiences, getting who I am representing, be it an artist or a candidate, to speak and present themselves with confidence and with passion, in many times, required honest and forthright conversations and advice about who they are and what they wanted to accomplish.
I was told by one client, when working with them on the job opportunities they had available, that my relationship with them was more than just an outside vendor; they considered me an extension to the company’s overall HR team. During one conversation with this client, who was head of HR, she began sharing some of the woes the organization faced with not finding a great talent pool. I politely listened to her and then gave a few words of encouragement that rang true to her core. “That’s it!” she exclaimed. Her response was simple and kind, “LT, you are officially my personal ‘employment therapist’; someone I can truly confide in.”
At the same time, many of my candidates looking for a job sought me out for advice when frustrated in a role or during their job search. So, I wrapped myself in this new moniker and spent the next four years helping provide sound advice, the type of advice you would get from a good friend, mother or teacher. This advice stemmed from my being a mother, good friend to many men and women as well as a student of life. It’s the kind of common sensical advice that can make you laugh out loud, weep or shed light on difficult circumstances.
I have had the pleasure of assisting thousands of candidates find their path to career advancement and have personally placed over 600 candidates in general labor to C-Level positions in a short period of time. I am excited to continue to share from the life lessons I learned working in adverse and challenging environments. I look forward to sharing lessons and advice with you.
